Fans of Astérix and Obélix won’t have to wait much longer for a new adventure. Netflix has confirmed the release date for its animated series, Astérix & Obélix: The Big Fight. The show is set to premiere on the streaming platform on April 30, 2025.
This new series adapts the seventh book in the classic comic series by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, originally published in 1966. The comics have a long history of adaptations, primarily as live-action films, including Netflix’s own Astérix and Obélix: The Middle Kingdom. This new project, however, marks a return to animation for the beloved characters.
Astérix & Obélix: The Big Fight tells the story of the small Gaulish village that stands defiant against the mighty Roman Empire. The Gauls’ secret weapon is a magic potion that grants them superhuman strength. But when the druid responsible for the potion loses his memory, the villagers must rely on their own wits and courage to defend themselves against the Romans.
The series is directed by Alain Chabat, who also directed the popular 2002 live-action film Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra. Chabat is joined by co-director Fabrice Joubert, who also shares writing credits with Benoît Oullion and Piano.
The project was first announced in 2021, with Netflix expressing excitement about bringing this iconic French cultural phenomenon to a global audience. This animated series represents a fresh take on the classic Astérix stories, promising to introduce the characters to a new generation of viewers while staying true to the spirit of the original comics. With its blend of humor, adventure, and historical setting, Astérix & Obélix: The Big Fight looks set to be a treat for fans of all ages.
