The latest trailer for “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” released during the Super Bowl, offers a glimpse into Ethan Hunt’s expanded team. Since the franchise’s inception in 1996, Ethan has typically operated with a small, trusted group. “Dead Reckoning” saw the addition of Grace, a reformed thief, to the IMF. Now, “The Final Reckoning” introduces two more unexpected allies.
Returning members Luther Stickell and Benji Dunn are joined by two surprising figures. Paris, an assassin seemingly left for dead in the previous film, is back and appears to have switched allegiances. She’s joined by Degas, a new character who finds common cause with Ethan, even at the risk of being labeled a traitor.
The trailer also confirms the return of several familiar faces: the White Widow, Alanna Mitsopolis; CIA director Eugene Kittridge; CIA analyst William Donloe; and President Erika Sloane.
While the trailer keeps plot details largely under wraps, it hints at Ethan’s mission to retrieve a weapon from a sunken submarine to combat the AI known as The Entity. It also features a brief shot of the biplane stunt, which reportedly caused Tom Cruise to briefly lose consciousness during filming.
“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is scheduled for theatrical release on May 23.
