Tesla has officially launched a refreshed version of its popular Model Y electric SUV, introducing a bold new design and a range of improvements. Initially available in China, Australia, and select Asia-Pacific markets, the updated Model Y is expected to roll out globally in the near future.
The redesigned Model Y, known internally as “Juniper,” boasts a distinctive front end reminiscent of Tesla’s Cybertruck, featuring a sleek light bar in place of traditional headlights. The rear also adopts a unique lighting design with a single, full-width light bar integrated into the hatch.
Inside, the refreshed Model Y takes cues from the recently updated Model 3, with ambient lighting and a rear passenger screen. However, it surprisingly retains a turn signal stalk, a feature absent in Tesla’s other current models.
Performance enhancements include an extended range, now reaching up to 719km (446 miles) on the Long-range AWD version based on CLTC estimates. Acceleration has also been improved, with the AWD Model Y achieving 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in 4.3 seconds.
Tesla is offering a limited-edition “Launch” series of the new Model Y in China, featuring exclusive badging. Deliveries in China are slated to begin in March, pending regulatory approval. While specific delivery dates for other markets remain unconfirmed, the global launch is anticipated to follow shortly after the initial rollout.
This refresh marks a significant update to the Model Y, incorporating design elements from Tesla’s newer models and enhancing performance and features. It is likely to further solidify the Model Y’s position as a leading electric SUV in the market.
