The Nürburgring Nordschleife, a legendary track in Germany, is often seen as the ultimate test for high-performance vehicles. Recently, the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD made history by becoming the fastest American production car to conquer this challenging circuit.
Driven by Dirk Müller, a seasoned racer from Multimatic Motorsports, the Mustang GTD achieved an officially certified lap time of 6:57:685. This impressive feat places the vehicle among the fastest production cars to ever tackle the Nordschleife, solidifying its position as a performance icon.
This accomplishment aligns with the aspirations set by Ford’s leadership. “The team aimed to create a Mustang capable of competing with the world’s best,” said a Ford representative. “We are proud of this achievement and are excited to continue pushing the boundaries of performance.”

The Mustang GTD’s success can be attributed to the dedication of a team of engineers and designers who spent two years transforming the Mustang GT3 race car into a road-going supercar. Ford documented this journey in a documentary titled “The Road To The Ring,” providing viewers with an inside look at the challenges and triumphs of developing the Mustang GTD.
The documentary showcases the extensive testing the vehicle underwent, from renowned American tracks like Sebring to the demanding Nürburgring. It features key figures involved in the project, offering insights into the development process.
The Mustang GTD represents the pinnacle of Mustang performance, drawing upon knowledge gained from Ford’s motorsport programs, particularly in aerodynamics and track-specific tuning. It incorporates advanced technologies such as carbon-ceramic brakes, active aerodynamics, a supercharger, and semi-active suspension.
While the Mustang GTD that set the record-breaking lap was a stock production model, it was equipped with mandatory safety features required by the Nürburgring, including a racing seat with a five-point harness and a roll cage.
